With energy demands continuing to rise, even in the face of an aging infrastructure, effective, reliable backup power has become that much more important. This remains especially true in areas like hospitals and data centers, where continuous power supply is crucial
So when GE introduced its new Durathon battery, the breakthroughs the new battery offered were stunning.
Just about everything you’ll find in GE’s new Durathon battery is an improvement on previous technology. The battery is perfect for uninterruptible power supply, or UPS, applications, which supplies emergency power when utility mains fail and, unlike a standby generator, provides instantaneous protection during power interruptions.
The Durathon is half the size of a typical wet-cell UPS battery, and thanks to its proprietary chemistry the battery stores and releases energy more efficiently. It’s more reliable than traditional batteries, and it lasts much, much longer — up to two decades. Perhaps best of all, the battery is 100% recyclable, and has a high energy density — in other words, it’s good for the earth, and it’ll save you money.
“GE’s Durathon battery has been designed to fit into modern UPS applications where continuous power is a must,” said Ganesh Balasubramanian, Product Manager GE Energy Storage Technologies. “This advanced industrial battery technology has the potential to set new standards for service life, compactness and sustainability.”
The Durathon will even lead to more jobs: an estimated 350 at GE’s new battery plant in Schenectady, New York. Is there nothing the battery cannot do?
